Be a part of an epic choir singing lyrics written seconds before they're sung!

Melbourne Fringe have an exciting Australian premiere work coming up as part of the 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival and we’re forming a mass, outdoor choir as part of a one-day epic performance.

Town Choir is a large-scale musical project, featuring hundreds of voices sharing the intimate minutiae of everyday life, fed live by a series of acclaimed writers and transformed into dramatic four-part harmony.

We’re looking for singers 18 years and over who can read music, hold a tune and want to be part of something extraordinary!

Under the direction of esteemed Melbourne music director, Evan J Lawson (Forest Collective) the choir will sing a series of lyrics that are received in real time via live feed, acapella.

If you are a singer who has choral/group singing experience, enjoys theatre and live performance art, we’d love to hear from you. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to gain more experience, meet new people and perform in a unique work by one of Canada’s most exciting performance companies, Theatre Replacement.

Town Choir is supported by the City of Stonnington, Canada Down Under and Canada Council for the Arts.

To join the Fringe choir, you’ll need to be available for a short series of rehearsals in order to learn the music and prepare for the event presentation on Saturday 22 October.

Although some choral experience is recommended, you won’t need to audition for a place, we will be training the choir for the performances in these sessions so as long as you’re available for majority of the rehearsals, plus the mandatory dress rehearsal and presentation, that’s it!

Please note: The Fringe Choir will be performing alongside two established choirs based in Melbourne.
