Layered Point / VOYAGER #3

A fusion of two unique contemporary works performed by Melbourne emerging artists.

Two people standing opposite each other, wearing a white singlet and blue pants. Their elbows raised, fists clenched, with their gaze staring ahead. A blue tint and halftone effect filters the entire image.

‘Layered Point/VOYAGER #3’ is a captivating double bill featuring innovative choreography and evocative performances. 'Layered Point' consists of six emerging artists, whilst 'VOYAGER #3', is a duo work created and performed by Jack Birdseye and Jel Menta. These dynamic pieces entertain, provoke introspection, and inspire dialogue, fostering a deeper appreciation for the beauty and power of contemporary dance.

‘Layered Point’ is a compelling and emotional contemporary work, filled with physicality and guts. Sound design by Damian Meredith, you will witness the body’s response to past experiences, developmental milestones and traumas. This work focuses on the concept of a mandala and the configuration of symbols that are often used for the purpose of healing and meditation. The dancers will highlight various patterns, shapes and directions mimicking the layers within a mandala, as they reach the centrepoint.

In ‘VOYAGER #3’ two bodies assume the roles of astronauts through an abstracted narrative, as they examine their duality. Inspired from the NASA space probes launched in the 1970s, invented to document scientific findings and make contact with extraterrestrial life. VOYAGER #3 was the 3rd installment of these probes, but it’s parts were quickly handed over to VOYAGER #1 and VOYAGER #2 due to technical failures. This work explores the reality of VOYAGER #3 launching into space. Only this time, holding two passengers.
