Travel along the Silk Road through exotic music from the amateur family band - the Zaahoos. Whether it's a Turkish song about a rich lady and her man-scribe, a shepherd's love for a maiden in the Caucasus, a Chinese man's love for a flower girl but with a destiny elsewhere, Baba (43) sings with passion in various languages. HanHan (8) accompanies in some of the vocals and YaYa (13) brings the songs to life with vivid descriptions.

The Zaahoos, a mispronunciation of the family name, started during the lockdowns, with an oud shipped from Izmir, followed by a kamancheh from Istanbul, then a duduk from Yerevan... Now the band has 8 instruments. Having started with a Turkish song, the repertoire now consists of folk songs in at least 5 languages besides English. They bring a selection of these to the Fringe Festival, for fun, love and a celebration of cultures and peoples.

About The Zaahoos

The Zaahoos (a mispronunciation of the Zhaos) is a family band formed during the lockdowns, when BaBa bought an Oud online from Turkey. Now the family of instruments also include an Azeri Kamancheh, Uzbek Doira, Turkish Darbuka, Armenian Duduk and Chinese Sanxian, plus Bongos and guitar, and probably more to come. The collection of songs includes ones in Turkish, Azeri, Uyghur, Bosnian, Mandarin, Spanish and English, with more to come. Although the pronunciation is often questionable, the passion for music is undoubtedly there, as the Zaahoos share their musical finds and stories about the eternal themes of all humanity, such as love, longing and dreams.
