'Boxed In' is an introspective public art installation reflecting on my mental health recovery journey and artistic practice within a rehabilitation home. I'm part of a community with diverse backgrounds and mental health experiences. Living within a sometimes chaotic environment filled with unique characters all living under one roof with 24/7 staff support, we navigate a place with little privacy and peace, where serene moments can be abruptly shattered by outbursts of distress. Listening to the stories of my peers inspired me to capture their expressions on corrugated cardboard boxes with charcoal. These cardboard boxes, once placed in public and exposed to the elements, undergo a transformative process, symbolising both resilience and vulnerability.

Creating art fosters connection and understanding for me and my community. 'Boxed In' encourages viewers to confront issues surrounding the intersectionality of mental health and homelessness. Through ephemeral public art installations, I aim to challenge stigma and foster empathy for those living with mental illness.
