Lift your finger, shuffle your feet, scratch your nose, turn to the left, sit tight.

Tiny gems: new artists perform 'small movements' quietly and joyfully on a pint-sized stage. Little moments of movement and dance are captured across genres and presented as short form works.

Presented as part of Union House Theatre's festival within a festival 'Guild Fringe (Dance Edit)', Small Movements takes its inspiration from the 1999 resident ‘Guild Dance Company’ performance of the same name.

‘Guild Dance’ were resident at the Guild Theatre in 1990s and provided a platform to foster people's passion for moving. Looking back, we imagine that their version of Small Movements honoured precious burgeoning ideas, celebrated bodies and showcased short form works.

Union House Theatre honours their contribution and brings this history into our future. For just two nights, join the audience for a curated program of short choreographed dance works, re-presented performances, spontaneous acts, raw physical theatre, solos, duets, trios and cultural dance - all by new artists in a format that allows them to play and test out concepts, to perform small ideas (or ... 'small movements') however they please.

About Union House Theatre

Union House Theatre (UHT) is the hub of extracurricular student theatre at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus. As part of UMSU (University of Melbourne Student Union) UHT programs a range of performance activities such productions, workshops, professional pathways, mentorships, residencies, and more. We present our own shows and festivals and connect with the best artists Melbourne has to offer all while supporting the work of over 20 autonomous student theatre groups as they produce their own productions in the Guild and Union Theatres.

The venue is located within the University of Melbourne (Parkville Campus) grounds.
