We invite you to an inspiring evening of spoken word, storytelling, and performance.

‘Women of Fire’

This one-off special event celebrates the powerful voices of women and gender diverse individuals who identify as women. The evening will feature a curated lineup of some of Melbourne's most inspiring voices. Five passionate poets, including Fleassy Malay, and Sevgi Boga, will take the stage, sharing their lived experience while you soak up the magic, leaving you inspired and energised.

Mother Tongue is committed to amplifying and equipping women’s voices. Passionate, Powerful, Vulnerable, Honest. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to celebrate and support the rise of women’s voices!

‘Women of Fire’ is a hybrid event, offering both in-person and online attendance (Digital Fringe), for expanded accessibility.

Queen Victoria Women’s Centre and Mother Tongue Poetry acknowledge that we live, work, and create on the lands of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation—land that is and always will be Aboriginal Land.

There will be light snacks and alcohol-free beverages available for purchase, and a small break between sets.

About Mother Tongue Poetry

The Queen Victoria Women's Centre's vision is that all women and gender diverse people have a place where they are welcomed, valued and celebrated and have the power to determine their present and future. Our purpose is to hold and create space for Victorian women and gender diverse people to thrive.

Mother Tongue is an organisation passionate about supporting the voices of women, and gender diverse people who identify as women.

The organisation centres around our live events and has become Melbourne’s biggest Woman’s Spoken Word event and one of the most established Spoken Word events in the city. A place for passionate, powerful, vulnerable and honest performance; it stands aside from most Spoken Word events in its depth and authenticity.

The organisation has been running since the end of 2012 and has evolved from a monthly event to the NFP organisation it is today. Mother Tongue supports these marginalised voices and showcases all forms of the Spoken Word, including poetry, comedy, rap, song and storytelling.

Some of these stories are hard to hear, others are filled with joy and sensuality. All of these stories are welcome in our space. Mother Tongue is proud to have been a catalytic force in the emergence of many incredibly talented writers and performers.
