It's December 1999, and the one thing helping 17-year-old Rachel avoid the fact she's terrified about her future is the promise of ringing in the year 2000 on a beach with her friends/love interest. So when her mother insists she greet Y2K in an apocalypse bunker her father’s built in their front garden, Rachel turns to the only rational adult she can think of, beloved children’s entertainer Suzy Cato.

This darkly goofy one-woman show is written and performed by elder millennial and apocalypse worrier Florence Hartigan, who can also be seen acting in TV comedy Madam alongside Rachel Griffiths. It's directed by Renee Lyons, who brought her award-winning one-woman show Nick: An Accidental Hero to the Melbourne Fringe Festival Hub in 2014.

A nostalgic journey through the era of Britney Spears and low rise jeans, Me, My Mother and Suzy Cato is a tale of past demons, future hopes, and the universal struggle of the family we need versus the family we get.

About Playfight Productions

Florence Hartigan is a Kiwi actor and writer, who can most recently be seen as a core cast member of Madam starring Rachel Griffiths and Martin Henderson, as well as Kid Sister and The Panthers. She has written for kids’ animated show Riddle Me This, and is currently a staff writer on New Zealand’s longest-running drama, Shortland Street.

A US career highlight for Florence was starring in the 2017 feature Phoenix Forgotten, produced by Ridley Scott (Alien) as well as appearing in Comedy Central’s Bro Dependent, IFC’s Entrance, and the animated feature To Your Last Death, alongside William Shatner. During her time in Los Angeles, Florence also studied and performed at The Upright Citizen’s Brigade and The Groundlings, and wrote and performed on comedy website Funny Or Die.

The entrance to the venue is on Lygon St. You can head up the front stairs and through the main doors, from there head right to get to the Loading Dock.If you need step-free access, head to the driveway located on the left-hand side of the main entrance on Lygon Street. The driveway will lead you into the courtyard. From the courtyard, there will be a lift on your right. Head to the first floor and turn left. Continue down the corridor, the entrance to the music room is on the left, just before the toilets. Volunteers will be available along the route to assist you if needed. Please don't hesitate to ask for help
