The image shows a bald person with a muscular build, covered in body paint that resembles tibal or abstract patterns. They are holding a large hula hoop in a dynamic pose against a dark background.

Apocrypha (a-) n. Hidden writings, works outside the accepted canon of scripture, social outsiders who do not fit the norm.

Enter the world of Apocrypha, the new ensemble show from circus provocateur Mitch Jones (AutoCannibal, Slava’s Snowshow, Circus Oz) that journeys beyond the canon of mainstream culture.

See the tightrope walker dance along rusty chains, while the acrobat spins hula hoops which blacken his body with painted scars, and contortionists balance precariously on weeping bluestone boulders.

Inspired by cult cinema, erotic fiction and the work of Jean Genet, this stunning new work of alt-circus explores the limits of our bodies, finding moments of beauty among the outcast and the unholy.

With a jaw-dropping cast including Adam Malone, Rindi Harradine, Kristian Santic and Chloe Fazikas, Apocrypha is a surreal exploration of desire and counterculture that will linger long after the final curtain falls.

About Oozing Future

Oozing Future is an experimental circus and physical theatre company based in Naarm/Melbourne. We explore provocative artistic concepts through multidisciplinary performance.

Led by creative director Mitch Jones (Slava’s Snowshow, Circus Oz, Snuff Puppets), we seek to develop new audiences for circus by centring theatricality, production design and experimentation within our practice. We build diverse teams of collaborators and use an ethos of empathy, humour and critical thinking to pursue artistic excellence.

Our work is known for being profound and playful, creating emotionally resonant and surreal imagery that captures and stimulates the imagination. Our previous shows include AutoCannibal (Sydney Festival 2021, Darwin Festival 2022), which explored the paradox of climate change and self-destruction through macabre clowning. And Strange Chaos (Adelaide Fringe 2023), a site-specific work of physical theatre that took place in a carpark behind a punk bar in the headlights of an old ute.
