Best Theatre Shows in August 2024 - Beat Magazine.

Fresh from a sold-out debut run at La Mama Theatre's Explorations Programme in August 2024, (t)issue is a relatable and heartbreaking story that follows Emma and her journey growing up with chronic pain.

Emma gets her period at ten. Her family is overjoyed. Her friends are jealous. She now has a reason to get out of PE. She’s suddenly winning the rat race to puberty and no one seems to be alarmed. Until she starts missing school, birthdays, and withdraws more and more into herself.

(t)issue is an exploration of a woman’s conflicting relationship with chronic pain, that digs into the physical and mental challenges of growing up with women’s health issues, and how early medical dismissals bleed and solidify trauma into her adult life.

Audience Testimonials:
"Touching, honest, funny and sharp. Anchored by a moving script, a lifetime is brilliantly staged by two leads who each deliver magnificent performances"

"An incredibly real, raw and touching piece about life with Endometriosis. This play tells a story that needs to be heard, but is so often brushed aside. (t)issue gives a voice to so many suffering in silence and a well-needed education to everyone else."

"This show is a must see for everyone! You will be moved, you will learn, you will laugh and maybe even cry. This is a show (especially as a woman) I’ve been waiting to see!"
