In 1982, a small collaborative of artists decided to change the cultural landscape of Melbourne by starting a festival that would include, represent and promote the spirit of artistic innovation and experimentation that makes our city great. Fast forward to the present day and Melbourne Fringe stands tall as Melbourne’s longest running, bravest and most popular arts festival, boasting a community of more than 330,000 fully engaged, socially aware young people.
None of this would have been possible without our partners. In 2009, Melbourne Fringe won the Australia Business Arts Foundation’s Marsh Partnering Award, in recognition of our stupendous partnership with Yarra Trams, which resulted two years later in the 2011 Tourism Victoria Award for Best Major Event or Festival. Yes, we beat the tennis, the Grand Prix and everyone else. In 2015, we even garnered the Melbourne Award for contribution to profile. So, you know, literally putting Melbourne on the map. Just saying.
We’ve got the Holy Grail demographics everyone lusts after. Half our audience are highly educated, gainfully employed, socially invested Melburnians under 35, from a diverse range of backgrounds.
