Fringe Furniture Awards Program

Fringe Furniture recognizes design excellence and innovation through a tailored awards program that is made possible by the generous support of industry and community. The 2019 Awards will be announced at the exhibition opening on Wednesday 11 September.

Award for Design Innovation

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • A well resolved design.
  • A high degree of functionality
  • An inherently innovative element to the design
Circular Economy Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • Waste avoidance
  • Maximum recycled content
  • Minimal embodied energy
  • Ease of disassembly for end of life material separation and reprocessing
  • Market readiness
The Craftsmanship Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

Innovation and excellence in manufacturing, specifically in areas of:

  • material choice
  • methods of assembly
  • quality of finish
  • overall durability in both design and construction
Award for Lighting Innovation

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

The winning design will demonstrate:

  • Marketability
  • Originality
  • Manufacturing efficiency
  • Design detailing
  • Narrative
Emerging Designer Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • Designer must be emerging, ie. within the first 5 years of creative or professional practice
  • Originality of Design
  • Craftsmanship
  • Suitability of the design for its intended function or purpose
Best Student Design Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • The designer is a student
  • The work represents a simple, well-executed idea with potential. (It does not necessarily need to be fully resolved.)
  • The student could benefit from assistance/mentoring to develop the idea further
The Production Ready Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • Suitability for low-volume batch production
  • Good use of CNC technology or the potential for CNC to be used
  • Potential opportunities for licensing of design for production and sale
Unite Award

Prize: TBC

Selection Criteria:

  • Best response to the 2019 provocation, Unite
