Arts Centre Melbourne in association with Melbourne Fringe presents
Take Over! is a unique and groundbreaking partnership between Arts Centre Melbourne and Melbourne Fringe, that enables an independent artist, company or collective the extraordinary opportunity to develop a new creative idea throughout 2018, ready for presentation in the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival. Baked by Arts Centre Melbourne, who’ve also kicked in a generous $30,000 in seed funding and tailored an epic program of support and mentorship in producing, marketing and fundraising (phew!), this is one hell of a project-creation program.
This year, multi-award winning choreographer and dancer, Stephanie Lake will be our Take Over! artist. Selected through a national call out which attracted applications and ideas from many of Australia’s leading independent artists, Stephanie will spend the year fulfilling her long-held ambition to make, Colossus, a mass work for over 50 dancers – yes, FIFTY – who will (somehow, magically) squeeze their way onto the Arts Centre Melbourne’s Fairfax Studio stage for one week of Melbourne Fringe, 26 – 30 September.
This project has been generously supported by Monica Lim and Konfir Kabo and Lorraine and John Bates.
