To celebrate our 40th with a big, bold birthday bash, we are bringing back the Fringe Parade & Lygon St Block Party for one more hoorah. And you better believe you’re invited.
From 3pm Saturday 15 October we want you to come march for the arts with us. Celebrate creativity as a vital expressive force, central our city, our culture and our lives. It’s going to be rebellious, ridiculous, and really, really big.
We’re calling all artists, audience members, alumni, musos, puppeteers, marching bands, dancers, dog walkers (you name ‘em, we want ‘em) to join hordes of arts-lovers and help us recreate this inclusive, colourful, piece of history.
Echoing the 2022 Festival provocation of “it’s about time”, this gloriously raucous Parade is your time to party in true fringe fashion for everything that matters to us. Whether it’s making demands of our artistic future, rejoicing in your creative accomplishments, or showing up to show the world that the arts matter now more than ever; whatever your reason, join us this October to march, dance, dress-up, commune and celebrate for the arts.
It all started in 1984 and for 17 years the infamous Fringe Parade brought people out from the fringes to celebrate, to rebel, to occupy. It was a rite of passage for the millions of artists and Melburnians that shaped our Festival in the early years. Expect all things silly and staggering as we bring colour to the black and white memories of Melbourne Fringe’s inception.
The 40th Anniversary Fringe Parade & Block Party will march through streets of Carlton, down Lygon street and end in a massive block party in Argyle Square where two massive out-door stages will present back-to-back stunning live entertainment, roving performances and our incredible Lygon St traders will be supplying the goods on all things food and drinks. All to be followed by kick-ons at our dazzling Club Fringe and after parties around town.
So, dust off an old fit (even it doesn’t fit like it used to), or stitch together something stunning. Call up the old crew, or fire-up as first timers. Come march for the arts, dance, dress-up and commune and celebrate creativity. This spectacularly Fringey 40th is here for a good time, not a long time, and it is not to be missed.
Register below to be a part of this one-time return of Fringe’s most iconic celebration of the arts!
