Find a Venue

So, you’ve got your event, now where is it going happen?

Fringe is proudly open access which means anyone can register an event… as long as they have somewhere to do it. There are plenty of options, and they don’t start and end with “black box theatre”.

You can take part in one of four ways.

1. Be part of the Festival Hub at Trades Hall

Is your event light on infrastructure, but big on bold ideas? Are you looking for a centrally-located, professionally-run venue with a winning vibe? Look no further – the Festival Hub at Trades Hall is back in business. At Festival time, Melbourne Fringe spreads its wings throughout Trades Hall, utilising not just our year-round venue Fringe Common Rooms but filling rooms, halls, chambers and cupboards with A-grade tech and excellent art. There are plenty of options from 30 to 200 seats, from one-nighters to long seasons, and any genre under the sun is welcome.

Don’t forget, we have some cracking Club Fringe and Fringe of the Hub Commissions up for grabs, so if you haven’t already, check them out here. If you’ve got a big idea for a show that can share a space (or fit in a nook or a cranny, we got plenty of those), and you want to be right in the thick of the action this October.

Festival Hub EOIs have now closed. If you have any questions please contact our Festival Hub Producer at matt@melbournefringe.com.au

2. Be Part of an Established Venue

Melbourne is jam packed with great venues that put together impressive programs of events just for Melbourne Fringe. Some operate year-round, some just pop up for the Festival, some are artform-specific (programming cabaret or circus or comedy) and other times they’re a lucky dip. Presenting at one of our Established Venues guarantees you’re playing alongside other Fringe artists in a space with serious Fringe vibes.

For some of these spaces, programming is by application only – you can find their Expression of Interest forms here.

Can’t find your dream art-home? No drama. You can find plenty more potential venues in our registration system, Eventotron. Start your registration and then search and filter the Venue Browser to your heart’s content.

3. DIY Show, BYO venue

Fringe happens wherever you make it happen. Found a perfect home for your Fringe event? Is it a backyard, shop window, street corner, back of a taxi or even a bird’s nest? You are all good here. Details need to be confirmed by the registration closing date Friday 1 July.

4. Digital Fringe

Whether you’re out of town, prefer your art online, or just want to make your work as accessible as possible, put on a digital show this Fringe. You make the art and provide the link and we’ll sort out the rest. It’s your very own venue, but in cyberspace.
