Artist Development

Fringe Common Rooms: Artists in Residence

Applications are now Closed.

Guess who’s back? Our venue Fringe Common Rooms is open again – and we want to help get artists back on their feet too. We’re offering FIVE paid 2021 artist residencies for artists looking for a new space to develop new art, explore their practice or get their Work in Progress stage-ready.

What do you get?
  • Cash to create – we’ll give you $5000 to facilitate the development of new work
  • Room to rehearse – you’ll get up to 16 days of rehearsal space at the Ballroom at Trades Hall
What are we looking for?
  • Distinctiveness – Unique events that explore new ideas in form or content, or which hold a distinctive place in Melbourne’s arts market.
  • Innovation & Experimentation – Innovation and bravery in a new exploration of artform, content or practice.
  • Diversity – We value works by and for people who identify as LGBTQIA+, First Nations, People of Colour, Deaf, disabled or Culturally or Linguistically Diverse.
  • Community – Works by independent artists that foster connection and celebrate our community, creating a social atmosphere.
