Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence are some of the hottest buzzwords these days, but it is easy to forget that Snapchat brings them both together, using machine learning to discover faces and augmented reality to fit the cute additions.
Enter the uncanny valley, an unnerving place, a place to explore computer generated people, to transplant their faces onto your own and see humanity and the posthuman surrealism of Snapchat through a computer's eyes.
Rosenbaum collected tens of thousands of Snapchat selfies from the internet and trained their computer to generate its own. But what does it look like when you then put those generated faces back into Snapchat, and onto your face?
These interactive works question identity, and the aesthetics of machine generated art. Download Snapchat and explore the funny, creepy and bizarre world of machine vision with J. Rosenbaum.
PLEASE NOTE: This event was previously advertised as taking place at Incinerator Gallery, but the venue has moved to Fringe Hub: Trades Hall.
