Here we see five characters posing in a dramatic way: The Groom, The Mother, The Father, The Maidservant and The Priest in the centre of the image, grouped together. The Mother has a constipated look on her face, the Groom is looking naively into the distance, the maidservant is knelt on the ground gasping at something off-camera, the Father is looking disgustedly at the Priest. The Priest is looking directly at the camera, dangling a metal incense holder towards us.
Lined up from left to right four characters in extravagent costumes looking in different directions, with concerned and confused expressions. The person in the middle, with a red skirt and disgruntled expression is carrying her cane, looking directly at the camera.

Meet our Groom: a frightened young man coerced by his overbearing mother to marry his distant cousin, the daughter of the wealthiest man in town. As he enters the dark mysterious church, he is greeted by the wedding party, which includes The Father of The Bride (a repulsive man obsessed with his wealth), The Servant (a hopeless romantic with a wonky mustache) The Maidservant (a ‘chaste’ young woman with wandering eyes), and The Priest (a holy man of God with suspiciously distinctive facial hair).

Save the date, send in your RVSP, and dryclean your Sunday best; The Wedding is a glorious evening of gothic horror and comedy, exploring the story of an ill-fated wedding in the distant land of Latnovia. Combining elements of physical theatre and clown, the show explores conceptions of marriage, repression of female sensuality, and puritanism.

“Laughter will come in waves, the initial laughs of delight and genuine surprise promoting secondary self-conscious giggles. It is a real credit to the performers and the direction that this rollicking show can also find moments of real pathos and genuine emotion amidst the stitch inducing plot.” - Irene Corbett for Theatre Scenes.

"The Wedding has the explosive energy of an improv show, but with a sharp-shooter delivery. It voiced many of my own feelings about the church and marriage, all while making me laugh non-stop.” - Aidan Dayvyd for RATWORLD Magazine

About A Fool's Company

A Fool's Company was born from founding member Melissa Cameron's Masters Degree researching Circus Theatre. We learnt that we share an appreciation for the universal language of the body, that we love to make work that is humorous, honest and absurd and that we are passionate about creating theatre that slips a sneaky bit of social dialogue in through a smile. Our creative members have trained internationally in Balinese Mask, Physical Theatre and Commedia dell'Arte and enjoy working with Aerial Circus, Handbalance, Puppetry and Clown. Since our first project in 2017 we have created four original shows and a roving street act.
