Les Darcy, an Australian icon at risk of being lost to time. Born in Maitland in 1895, he rose to great acclaim and became a world-renowned middle-weight boxing champion, hailed as the ‘Maitland Wonder.’ In search of fame and fortune, he travelled to the USA and faced a great deal of controversy surrounding alleged draft-dodging, however, his US career was not to be, after his sudden and tragic passing. More than 100 years after his death the Les Darcy legend lives on. What can we learn about generational trauma, structured versus unstructured violence and toxic masculinity, by re-examining this established work?

Femmural's production will ask whether we can ever have a peaceful world when nations continue to teach their youth that the only place they can render sacrifice, is the battlefield?
