The Auslan Movement is an interactive performance/exhibition with Deaf artist Chelle Destefano. In real time, Chelle creates sculptures of wet watercolour paper that correlate to Auslan symbols and gestures, inviting audiences to observe how sculptural shapes are formed out of signs and conversations. New sculptures will be added to the exhibition after each performance, accompanied by evocative illustrations of Chelle’s childhood memories of signing and using the Cued Speech language method she spoke with her Deaf school friends-Auslan was not allowed in schools at that time. Catch this stunning testament to bodily language, through space and time.
Presented as part of Critical Mass.
These events will be Auslan interpreted. Interpreters are:
Teale Nicholls and Candace Wellington for 12th Sept,
Sarah Field and Candace Wellington for 13th Sept,
Candace Wellington and other TBC for 14th Sept
