Enter the life of two Maggies in a 30-minute dance film where childhood in China and adulthood in Australia are explored. I Am Maggie is an improvised work using street, contemporary and Chinese cultural dance vocabularies danced by Maggie "Madfox" Chen and Maggie "Maggz" Zhu. This dance film tells the collective story of resilience, ancestral connection, female empowerment and freedom.
Soft power, fuelled by Audio Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR), transforms quiet whispers and minute movements into roars of exclamation and choreography of proclamation. Based on a 'Mad Libs' style script co-written by the community in August 2020, I Am Maggie puts you, the viewer, in the driver's seat to embody the unique energy these Maggies possess.
I Am Maggie is a sonic and visual experience customised for headphones or a surround sound stereo system.
