What’s a family dinner without some family hysterics?

Fourteen year old Rupert has been taken into foster care by the Giles family. A household made up of a laid-back father, an over-bearing mother, two squabbling sisters, a pretentious son-in-law, a depressive son and a wildly-sexual daughter. Rupert is out of his depth when he enters this unconventional home, waiting patiently for a ‘seat’ at the table. It’s a family gathering, sure, but with a twist.

'Sunday Roast' was written by award-winning Kiwi playwright and 'powerhouse of creativity' Thomas Sainsbury. In New Zealand, Sainsbury has won Playmarket's Young Playwright of the Year four times and has been a finalist for the Bruce Mason Award and the Playmarket New Play Award.

The eight characters are brought to life by actors Courtney Ally Miller & Ben McCarthy.

Courtney Ally Miller is stepping out of ‘Summer Bay’ and on to the main stage. After her series regular on ‘Home and Away’ from 2018-2023, Courtney recently trained full-time at 16th Street Actors Studio, working with many renowned Australian and American coaches and directors.

Ben McCarthy has also just completed his training at 16th Street Actors Studio, where he met his lovely cast mate. Outside of scripted theatre, Ben has been performing improvised comedy for ten years with troupes in Australia and New Zealand. He's currently performing regularly as a member of The Big Hoo-Haa, Impromptunes. You can also see him in the first week of Fringe performing a two person improv show called 'Ben & Jen'!

We are extremely lucky to be joined by the talented Fabio Motta as creative consultant. Fabio is an award winning actor, theatre maker and teaching artist based in Naarm. He has had the fortune of acting and devising theatre in Australia, Europe and the United States.

    The entrance to the venue is on Lygon St. You can head up the front stairs and through the main doors, from there head right to get to the Loading Dock.

    Once you're in the Loading Dock you can head straight through to the Victoria Street Building where the Corner Store is on your right.
