Chelle has been researching the meaning behind safe space for Deaf people and she realised it is more than just a room. Safe space can be a person we trust, a faculty, a group or gathering.
Chelle is presenting the performance of her poem on Safe Space, to inform of the Deaf safe space issues and history of abuse to the Deaf in school and to give an awareness to the communities about that history and today's ongoing issue with oppression and feeling unsafe.
Safe Space is based on Chelle's personal experiences as a Deaf person, and the poetry will be performed in Auslan, along with captioning and voice-over to invite blind, low-vision and English speaking audience members into the experience of this beautiful poetic work.
This project is amplified by Melbourne Fringe through the Cash for Creatives program.
