Two young people look toward the sky, sitting on grass. They are sitting back to back and leaning their heads back to rest on the other's shoulder.

JAQ: I give off Aquarius vibes, do I?
RILEY: Big Aquarius vibes. Huge.
JAQ: Listen, I don’t know anything about Astronomy.
RILEY: Astrology... Aren’t you gay?

It’s Like a Circle is a new Australian play about the budding friendship and maybe-could-be-if-you-wanted-to-no-pressure-though romance between two young sapphics. Abbey Hanson’s second play is a cozy and candid look into the nuances of finding queer love, and the impact a heteronormative cis world has on queer relationships.

Jaq (she/they) is a self-proclaimed recovering “Catholic All Girl’s School Dyke” with a beckoning gender identity crisis and feelings for their housemate’s best friend. Riley is a short king whose not as confident as they seem. Maybe if they were, they would do something about the crush they have on their best friend’s housemate.

The two meet at an out of control share house New Year’s Eve party and spend the next year of their lives ludicrously pining over one another. Starring Charlie Boscolo as Riley and Jessica Kapiten as Jaq, Its Like A Circle is hilarious, sweet, and relatable to anyone who has ever experienced gay panic.

This project received Cash for Equity through the Fringe Fund, as part of the Ralph Mclean Microgrants program, and as part of Radical Access.
