A black and white photo of a woman of short stature with light coloured hair in a bob. She wears a long black tank top and lifts her left leg away from the camera with her right hand raised above her head, balletically. She is dancing in front of a white wall, in the corner of a room with wooden floors.

The disabled body has historically been defined by the gaze of others. From the medical gaze to the stranger’s stare, perceptions of bodies with disabilities raise issues of autonomy and consent.

Leisa Prowd’s 'I Am (Not) This Body' is a cross-disciplinary exploration of her relationship with her own body in a world not made for it, and an invitation to experience life as she does.

Through film, spoken word, dance, projection and sculptures, Leisa finds alternative ways to reclaim body autonomy and represent difference.

Culminating in a solo performance, 'I Am (Not) This Body' is a rich and engaging exploration into compelling territory.
