The Filmonik Melbourne Filmmaking Kabaret is a creative weekend of spontaneous, collaborative filmmaking culminating in a screening of the completed short films at Lido Cinemas. Expect 10-15 fun shorts, punctuated by quick Q&A’s with the directors. It's not your typical cinema experience – so grab a jug of beer and be ready for anything: comedies; dramas; sci-fi; action; and weird, bizarre, crazy 20 sec clips and more.
Even better, get involved in the making of the shorts in a festive, shared, production environment called the Kinolab. This space brings together filmmakers, actors, musicians, writers, technicians and all film aficionados to craft <5 min films, over 72 hours, in a genial atmosphere with fellow participants providing to each other the support needed to make it to the finish line with a film.
Grab a ticket for the screening only at Lido by selecting the date Sunday Sept 23.
To participate in the filmmaking process select the date Friday Sept 21 to access the Workshop tickets. A director or participant workshop ticket includes entrance to the screening on Sunday Sept 23 and grants you access to Bakehouse Studios from Friday 12pm. Main production meeting is Friday 6:30pm at Bakehouse.

"During seasonal Kabarets, participants live, eat, and work together. Kinoites form creative teams and make films. These temporary communes last at least 48 hours. In that short amount of time, Kinoites form creative teams and make films. The result is undoubtedly the most harried, exuberant, mind-blowing experience. "

"This cross-cultural affair attracts amateurs and professionals alike; everyone has something to contribute. Do well with nothing. Do better with little. But do it now!"
"Aspiring filmmaker but don't know where to start? Kino (Filmonik) might be the answer"... "Sounds hectic and stressful? Yes, it is. A memorable lifetime experience? Absolutely."
