Jobs and Volunteers

The Melbourne Fringe Festival is an annual celebration of cultural democracy and art for everyone. Every year, over 250 fabulous volunteers assist across marketing, ticketing, administration, hospitality, front of house and programming to help ensure the successful delivery of the Festival.

More than ever in 2021 Melbourne Fringe are going to need amazing people like you to pull off a killer Festival. Whether it’s pouring punters a well-deserved drink or helping direct them toward a QR code (they’re everywhere!) it might have been a hot minute since some of our audience members have been to a show, and we need your help to make them feel right at home.

The 2021 Melbourne Fringe Festival runs 30 September – 17 October.

Applications are now open for 2021. The best part? Everyone’s invited!

What’s involved?

As a Melbourne Fringe volunteer you’ll typically contribute 15 – 25 hours of time across the Festival. Most volunteers help across five shifts of four to five hours each, but many put their hands up for more. Some volunteers also help before the Festival, assisting with making venues beautiful (site décor) and making stuff happen, while looking beautiful from behind a desk, (administration). To assist us with planning these hot dates (aka rostering) you’ll need to be available across at least five dates during the festival.

How to Apply

Make a cup of tea, gather your fancy certificates (note: fancy certificates optional), and fill out the application form!

We want your experience of volunteering at Fringe to be worthy of telling your future grandkids, pets, loved ones, and loved ones’ pets about. The more details you can give about your interests, skills and availability, the better we can tailor your volunteer duties and make your experience at Melbourne Fringe an enjoyable and rewarding one. If you have a current RSA, Working with Children Check or additional certificates, have copies of these handy before you start your application.

We have limited places available in our volunteer program so be sure to let us know all the fabulous pieces of information that set you apart from the rest and we will respond to your application shortly after the closing date (Sun 29 Aug at 5pm). If you don’t get a volunteer spot in the first round, you will join the waiting list – there may be opportunities to be involved if other volunteers drop-out.

Please note you must be over 18 years old to volunteer.

Do you have a very particular set of skills, Liam Neeson? Click on the role summaries below to find out more.

We have a bunch of different volunteer roles up for grabs in Front of House, Hospitality, Audience Engagement, Ticketing & Box Office and Access. See the Volunteer Role Summaries here for more information about what’s involved.

What are my benefits?

The benefits of volunteering at Melbourne Fringe are plentiful. You will receive a glorious Fringe T-shirt, opportunities to see shows for free and an invitation to our VIP volunteers and staff party.

Some volunteers sign up to gain arts experience and enhance their cultural practice, while others just like to be involved and have fun.

As a volunteer you will be part of a team providing a platform for a vast, diverse range of voices and, frankly, making the world a better place. We’re here to challenge perceptions and shake up the hierarchy, to be brave and unafraid, to explore the boundaries of art and to change the way people see the world – and we want you to help us do it.

Volunteering will be fun, fast-paced and full of rewards, so don’t dilly-dally – submit your application now!
