You’re entering the darkest of nights; where strange sounds pervade the air, empty halls reek of decay and something in the shadows is watching. Four classic tales of literary terror are brought together in this atmospheric and intimate one-woman performance.
**PLEASE NOTE: 23rd September is a special, one-off fundraiser for the YWCA featuring emerging theatremakers. Every other night is regular pro crew**
In The Tell-tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, a woman commits murder but is driven mad by guilt. In The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a woman confined to her room becomes sure a crone lives behind the ugly wallpaper. In The Keepsake by contemporary Tasmanian writer Briony Kidd, a mother curses her family with a portrait of her daughters, one alive, one dead. In The Open Window by Saki, a girl tells her nervous visitor about the anniversary of a hunting party’s untimely deaths.
Night Terrors is a storytelling theatre format created by performer Stefan Taylor. After two critically-acclaimed seasons at Melbourne Fringe, Stefan and director Simon J Green are handing the reins over to rising star Caitlin Mathieson (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Vic Theatre Company).
